TAYLORVILLE — Special guest for the morning was the 2022 recipient of the Optimist Club’s Scotty Canale Scholarship, Miss Alexis Kent and her mother Amy Kent. Alexis was selected from many applicants who sought to receive financial help from the Optimist Club. Scotty Canale was a well- known local businessman, a former Optimist Illinois District Governor, and a strong advocate of youth. Alexis will be attending the University of Illinois in Champaign next year where she plans to study to become a speech and language therapist.
Guest speaker for the morning was the Director of the Christian County Economic Development Corporation, former Mayer Dick Adams. Dick was named Director by the organization in February of 2022. He covered some of the history of this group as well as bringing us up to date with the progress on the Industrial Park and the plans to aggressively search for new leads on attracting new or re-locating businesses. Current members of the Board of Directors include Ken Hart, Randy Miller, John Garner, Chris Smith, John Blakeman and Amy Hagen. Dick told a brief history of the location of the location of the industrial site from its original location along R. 48 near the airport, to its current location north on Rt. 29 going towards Springfield.
The annual Optimist Jr. Golf Tournament is scheduled for June 13-15, 2022, at Red Tail Run G.C. in Decatur. Young golfers from all around the state will compete for the opportunity to advance to the International Tournament in Florida later this year.
