Herbert “Herb” K. Hendricks

Herbert “Herb” K. Hendricks, 86, of Taylorville, Ill., passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022 at 9:24 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, Ill. He was born on September 10, 1935, the son Herschel Adam and Mabel Jane (Shake) Hendricks in Taylorville, Ill. He graduated with the Taylorville High School Class of 1953. Herb married Shirley Smith on December 2, 1956 in First Baptist Church in Taylorville, Ill. He started working at age 15 for Dri-Gas, after high school he earned an associates degree in LP gas technology at Southern Tech in Chamblee, GA and later returning to Dri-Gas and became plant manager for Thermogas. Herb served the Taylorville community in different capacities throughout his lifetime. He was the co-founder of Keep Taylorville Beautiful, in 1991 he launched the veteran’s monument at the corner of Park & Webster, he served as alderman for several years and he later retired from the street department. Herb was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, family historian, neighborhood handyman and a beloved friend to his Florida snow bird families. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Shirley Hendricks, daughter: Diane Hendricks (Gary) Lewis of Springfield, Ill., sons: David (Hilde) Hendricks of Taylorville, Ill. and Douglas Hendricks of Taylorville, Ill., five grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, 1 sister, son: Donald William Hendricks, grandson: Drew William Hendricks.

Visitation will be on Monday, June 20, 2022 from 9:00-11:00 am at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, Ill. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 11:00 am at Sutton Memorial Home with American Legion Post 73 Chaplain and nephew Ricky Reed officiating. Burial will be held immediately following the service at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, Ill.
