Shirley Lea Spain

July 5, 1937 — August 5, 2022

Shirley Lea Spain was a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world on August 5, 2022 at the age of 85.

Shirley was a hard-working woman who spent countless hours mowing lawns and cleaning houses to provide for her family. She loved being out in nature, and gardening in the summertime. She was known for her green thumb and lovingly tended many house plants. She enjoyed reminiscing of days gone by when she was growing up and listening to the whippoorwills in Southern Illinois.

Her children remember her as someone who loved to doodle, and in lighter moments she could be found dancing to old county western songs in her living room. She loved to say that she was proud that she “did it” her way.

Shirley was born to Harry and Pearl Beesley on July 5, 1937 as the second oldest of seven children, and has 3 surviving siblings: Ray Beesley, Carol (Rod) Jackson and Keith Simmons. She herself had 5 children: Cheryl Schuster, Mike Spain, Denise (Warren) Blankschen, Theresa (Bill) Bright and Brenda Spain. She was called grandma by ten grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
