CHRISTIAN COUNTY — The Highway, Buildings, Grounds, Environmental, Zoning and Welfare committee of the Christian County Board met for the second time this month on Tuesday night, Aug. 9. The committee passed several motions and heard about future business plans.
Christian County Supervisor of Assessments Chad Coady presented five zoning permits to be reviewed. Thomas Snyder Jr. made the motion to approve the two demolition permits while Dale Livingston motioned to approve the buildings and garage permits. Both passed through the committee unanimously.
Invenergy provided each member with a handout containing their Hickory Point Solar Energy Center demonstration. Lead Developer Greg Vasilion along with Andy Byers informed the committee on their mission, timeline and the overall positive impact their future projects will have on Christian County. The company plans to submit for permit amendment in 2022, begin construction in 2023 and beginning solar operation in 2025. No action was taken at this time.
The topic of the county’s Zoning Office was discussed. Since there is no Zoning Officer at this time, there is no one to occupy the current office. The committee can choose to relocate the office, with the permission of the Christian County Sheriff Bruce Kettelkamp. As sheriff, it is one of Kettelkamp’s duties to supervise the Courthouse and offices.
Bev Graham made the motion to move the Zoning Office back to the Courthouse from the Animal Control building. Graham and Snyder voted “Yes” while Dale Livingston and Chuck Smedley voted, “No”. County Board Chairman Matt Wells acted as the tie-breaking vote to pass the motion.
Christian County Animal Control Director Sherri Craggs gave her monthly report which included the current accounts, staffing and the Animal Shelters immediate needs.
Courthouse and building business was up next on the agenda. Courthouse Groundskeeper Ron Brown presented the necessary information to the committee regarding the replacement of the Boiler, Tree removal and the Architectural handbook details. All three subjects were added to the Full Board agenda for next Tuesday, Aug. 16. Brown was also complimented by the committee on improvements made.
The meeting adjourned at 7:13 p.m.
