Day of appreciation for their work on Aug. 17
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is inviting not-for-profit community groups to visit the museum free of charge on Aug. 17 in recognition of the important work they do.
Groups can use the visit to support their work (for instance, youth groups could bring children to learn about Lincoln) or simply as an opportunity for hard-working staff and volunteers to enjoy one of the state’s great museums.
Any group wanting to take advantage of the offer MUST register in advance by calling the ALPLM sales office at (217) 558-8939 to reserve their tour time.
The offer of free admission on Aug. 17 is one in a series of “Abe Appreciation” events where the ALPLM recognizes people and organizations that contribute to the community. Other groups honored include teachers and workers in the tourism and hospitality industry.
“Community groups work hard to make life better, whether it’s offering educational programs for children or supporting local parks or helping needy people get health care. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum wants to thank them for all they do,” said ALPLM Executive Director Christina Shutt. “To borrow the words of Abraham Lincoln, ‘Benevolence and charity possess their hearts entirely’.”
After this event for community groups, the next Abe Appreciation day is Sept. 11, when the ALPLM will offer free admission to first responders and health-care workers.
The mission of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is to inspire civic engagement through the diverse lens of Illinois history and sharing with the world the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln. We pursue this mission through a combination of rigorous scholarship and high-tech showmanship built on the bedrock of the ALPLM’s unparalleled collection of historical materials – some 13 million items from all eras of Illinois history.
