KINCAID — The South Fork Board of Education held a regular meeting on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. in the District Media Center.
At the meeting, the Board discussed their E-Learning Plan. E-Learning Plans allow a district to use virtual education programs on what would otherwise be a snow or emergency days. This allows the district to avoid having to make up days at the end of the school year. South Fork devised a plan last year that would allow them to use up to five days as E-Learning Days. This year, the Board decided to make a few more tweaks to their plan before approval, but it looks pretty much the same as the one used before.
The biggest change was the requirements for the E-Leaning days to continue throughout the year. In order to ensure the best education for their students, South Fork is going to require a certain amount of attendance on E-Learning Days. If only 25% of the students tune in for the virtual learning, the district will discontinue the E-Learning Days and go back to making up the days at the end of the year. The district did not want to waste their time with days where kids are not actively engaging in education. The Board approved this plan.
Superintendent Chris Clark went over the tentative budget for the upcoming school year again with the Board. He explained to the Board that this was a very tight year for the budget. “We will have to learn to live within our means,” He stated, “But I think we can do it. The Operational Costs scare me, though.” Those costs include electricity and gas bills, which have gone up for everyone this year.
Clark added that the numbers presented were unaudited numbers. The Audit would begin on Monday, August 22. After that was finished, Clark expected he would be able to provide the Board with much more accurate numbers.
Also approved at the meeting:
– Treasurer’s report
– Destruction of Executive Session audio tapes
– Second reading of elementary handbook
– Second reading of HS/JH handbook
– ESSER in person learning plan
The next regular meeting of the South Fork Board of Education will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. in the District Media Center.
