MULTIPLE LOCATIONS — The THS boys and girls cross country teams ran in two invitationals over the weekend. First, on Thursday September 15, the Decatur Invite. Then, just two days later, The Richard Spring Invite.
DECATUR — The Taylorville Cross Country
teams raced 45 minutes northeast to participate in the Decatur Invitational. Ladies were first up to set the tone.Taylorville girls earned 76 total points giving them a third place finish. Coming in first was Normal with 26 and conference rival Mt. Zion with 33.
The Tornado who led the pack was Ella Goodman. She finished seventh overall with a final time of 21:28. Coming in behind her were Taylorville runners Hallie Smith (23:05), Sydney Lowis (24:19), Anna Goodman (24:35), Grayce Goodroe (24:48), Brooke Heimsness (28:53), Lydia Heberling (30:11) and Kyndra Durbin (30:13).
The boys team gave the race their all earning
second place with 43 total points. Finishing in first place was Normal with 38 points. Just behind the Tornadoes was Mt. Zion (68) and Decatur (85).
The Tornadoes frontrunner was junior Owen Morgan. He finished with a final time of 16:22 which earned him a third place finish overall. Not far behind were teammates Will Turvey (16:59), Jack Chesser (17:10), Tyler Corpin (17:54), Jesse Sloan (17:57), Brenton Good (18:16), Hayden Harker (18:48), Alex Davis (19:43) and Ross Brown (20:22).
PEORIA — The Tornadoes then headed to Detweiller Park in Peoria on Saturday, September 17. More than forty different teams from all over the state of Illinois
participated in the 3-mile run.
The girls from Taylorville had three runners officially finish. They were Ella Goodman (20:40.9), Hallie Smith (21:30.6) and Anna Goodman (23:48.4).
The THS boy racers earned 45th place out of the 71 teams that finished. Owen Morgan paved the way finishing 79 overall with a time of 15:57.6. Behind him was Turvey (17:22), Chesser (17:34.8), Good (17:44.3), Sloan (18:06.3) and Harker (18:21).
Taylorville cross country will take their talents to the Mattoon Cross Country Invitational. The race will be held on Wednesday, September 21 at Broadway and Peterson Park.
