TAYLORVILLE — The Tornadoes hosted the Hawks to a soccer match on Monday, September 19. The match was a special one as they honored each of the nine senior players. The Taylorville boys soccer team scored two unanswered goals in the second half to defeat Macon-Meridian, 2-1.
“We played hard.” said Head Coach Tim Karbach “We’ve been building and building after every game. “
The Tornadoes allowed for the Hawks to score a late goal towards the end of the first half. THS goalie Carter Thomas misjudged the shot and missed the save. This didn’t bring him or his team down.
“The seniors wanted it they motivated the team and played well. And it showed.”
During the halftime break Coach Karbach and players
could be seen talking to Thomas about the allowed goal. When asked what was said Thomas didn’t hesitate to share.
“They were telling me to keep my head up.” said the senior goalie “The whole team came over, got my head up and I really think that helped a lot. They all backed me up in the second half”
Over the weekend the Tornadoes posted a 4-2 victory over Apollo Conference opponent Effingham on Saturday, September 17. During the middle of the match Thomas, who was the active goalie, set the ball down and booted it 102-yards right over the Hearts goalkeeper and into the net. He told reporters he didn’t expect the goal to even be his.
“I just kicked it.” said Carter Thomas “honestly when it went in I didn’t expect it was my goal I thought it was Trysten’s (Anderson).”

Back to the Monday night contest.
Right after halftime broke the Tornadoes kicked in their aggressiveness and started attacking so much more. The offensive charge was lead by seniors Luke Ellinger, Zander Buchanan and Trysten Anderson. The trio combined for 16 shots on goal. Two of the shots were made back to back by Ellinger and Buchanan. The strong leg of both seniors gave the Hawks goalie absolutely no chance in saving it. Other nuisances to the Macon-Meridian defense was senior Will Colbrook and freshman Haden Stissel. The pair
combined for nine shots on goal.
“It was the whole team.” Karbach commented. “That’s what makes this team great. When they play as a team, they do great things.”
Speaking of well rounded team victories the Tornadoes could not have won this match if it wasn’t for the impressive defense by Trenton Lehman, Dylan Jones and Nathan Coady. The defensive force protected the goal to the best of their abilities and ultimately only allowed one to get passed them.
The boys earned their Senior Night victory 2-1
through means of resilience and teamwork. Taylorville (3-10-1) will travel to Lincoln (5-2-4) to challenge the Railsplitters tonight (Tue) at 4:30.
