CHARLESTON — For the second time in 10 days the Taylorville girls golf team traveled to Charleston Country Club for a multi- school tournament, the IHSA Class 1A Regional. The Tornadoes went into the meet with an injury depleted squad, as two of their top five golfers, Laura Wayman and Kaydee Prose were sidelined with leg injuries suffered in the last week. Although not figuring in the team scoring, individually, senior Sophia Robinson continued her outstanding season with a 6th place finish in the overall contest, carding an 88. Sophomores Ryleigh Mizeur- Crist and Jordan Dieterich, both first time regional participants, scored 139 and 160 respectively.
Pana had two ladies take part in the regional at Charleston, as junior Claire Osborn scored a 127 while senior Madison Clark tallied a 131.
Mattoon won the team title by one stroke over Effingham, 377 to 378. Charleston was third with a 394. Those three teams, as well as the top 10 individuals advance to the Lincoln Sectional on Monday, October 3rd.
Sophia Robinson will be the lone Tornado at that event, she also advanced to the sectional last season. As of press time today, no tee times were available for the golfers that will play at Lincoln’s Elks Club Golf Course Monday.
