Major Grant For Building Trades

(TAYLORVILLE) — The Taylorville High School Building Trades Program and educator Matt Blomquest is the recipent of a $50,000 grant from the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools project. The presentation was made at Taylorville High School on Tuesday before students currently enrolled in the program. THS Building Trades program recipient of $50,000 grant

TAYLORVILLE — Building Trades teacher Matt Blomquist was surprised on Tuesday morning with a crowd of people, cameras and one big check for $50,000. Blomquist submitted his third application for the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools prize along with over 750 other teachers hoping for the same

award. Michelle Rosa, District Manager for Harbor Freight Schools, along with THS Principal Matt Hutchinson presented the prize to Mr. Blomquist. The $50,000 will go directly to Taylorville High School Building Trades department. Blomquist will receive $15,000 for himself from the grant.

“I know how difficult this is. I know a lot of teachers who have wanted this.” Blomquist said. “Any shop teachers out there I definitely encourage them to apply for it. What Harbor Freight Tools for Schools is doing is amazing. This will do a lot for us as anybody knows these classes are not cheap.”
