Taylorville linkster’s run ends at Sectionals

MULTIPLE LOCATIONS — Taylorville golfers Sophia Robinson and Isaac Corso took to the links in Lincoln and Waterloo on Monday, October 3.

WATERLOO — Freshman Tornadoes Boys golfer Isaac Corso and Head Coach Paul Millburg took off to Acorns Golf Links on Monday afternoon. The course featured 6,701 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par total of 72.

Corso finished just 25 over par with a cumulative total of 97. The freshman placed 98th. The freshman had a great run, especially for his first year at the varsity level. Millburg stated he was “very proud of him” for his run into the postseason.

LINCOLN — Sophia Robinson came within one stroke of reaching the IHSA Class A Girls State Tournament Monday afternoon at the Lincoln Elks Golf Club. Robinson lost her opportunity one first sudden death playoff hole for the 10th and final state qualifying berth. Robinson nearly avoided the playoff on her 18th hole of the day when her par putt from eight feet lipped out that would have secured that last spot.

The Tornado senior carded a 92 on the day, deadlocked with Zoey Beard of Williamsville and Madeline Sanders of Charleston. Sanders won the duel with a bogey on the extra hole to claim the last spot and a state berth at Decatur’s Red Tail Run course this weekend.

It was a great senior season for the THS linkster, capping a campaign with back-to-back Sectional appearances and also making the All-Apollo Conference Golf team for the second straight year.
