Two TPD officers share ‘Officer of the Year’ honors

(TAYLORVILLE) — For 2022, the award for Officer of the Year in the Taylorville Police Department is going to a pair of officers. TAYLORVILLE — The Taylorville Police Department has announced co-winners of the 2022 Officer of the Year Award. They are Sergeant Jeremy Alwerdt and Sergeant Christian Nelson.

The department recognizes Sergeant Nelson’s leadership skills as the officer in charge of Platoon A; his passion for being a member of the Emergency Response Team; The Community Action Team; and his dedication as a member of the Attorney General’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Sergeant Alwerdt’s leadership skills as the officer in charge of Platoon C; his passion for being the Team Leader and Trainer for the Emergency Response Team; his commitment to attending advanced courses to help the team; his commitment to the Community Action Team; and his dedication to his K9 handler position to fight the war on drugs are commendable.

Both officers exhibit deep passion for helping others and shows the true meaning of not only being a police officer, but also a person. Each officer exemplifies the innovative skills to be a great leader and service to the City of Taylorville.
