Edinburg Junior High Science Club members going to IJAS event
Cayden Mazzini, Adyline Kinney, Ivy Mink, and Colton Rhodes will be competing in the Illinois Junior Academy Science Region X Expositions on Saturday, Mar. 18, 2023. Judging is based on 3 categories – experimental research, board presentation and oral presentation.
IJAS is hosted by Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield. Judging will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the awards presentation will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Cass Gymnasium.
Competitors in seventh through 12th grade who are awarded as 1st place regional winners will be eligible to participate at the IJAS State Exposition which will be held at SIU- Carbondale on Saturday, Apr. 29. All first place sixth grade regional winners will be selected to assist judges at the IJAS State Exposition.
IJAS Science Fair incorporates best practices through STEM education and exploration in which students develop a broader understanding of the world. Data indicates these students not only develop critical thinking skills, but also creativity, confidence, and courage. Because STEM encompasses a wide range of skills and experiences, students are college & career ready and prepared to work in an environment of high-tech innovations. Students showcase their research at regional competition, where they have the opportunity to advance to the state competition, as well as to win awards, scholarships, and a chance to compete in national and international competitions. Students can choose between a design or experimental project in 19 different science disciplines, among them, aerospace, biochemistry, botany, cellular & molecular biology, chemistry, computer science, earth science, electronics, engineering, environmental science, health science, materials science, mathematics, microbiology, physics, and zoology.
