TAYLORVILLE — The Taylorville Public Schools Foundation held its 2023 Spring Fundraiser, Dueling Pianos, on Saturday, March 25, at The Pillars Event Center. The fundraiser included a social hour and appetizers, a catered dinner by Angelo’s, dessert, silent auction items, and a 50/50 raffle drawing which preceded the entertainment Howl @GO Dueling Pianos.
The highlights of the evening in addition to the meal, entertainment, and audience participation, were the presentations of various awards. The All School Grant Award was awarded to not 1 but 3 schools this year: North Elementary, Memorial Elementary and the Taylorville Junior High School. Faculty and administrators from these schools accepted the awards with appreciation.
The next award was given to Bix Viara, a student at Taylorville High School. She was the winner of a Foundation LOGO Contest and left her legacy by designing a new logo for the Foundation. She was awarded a $250 cash prize for her outstanding design!
The Distinguished Alumni Award is given yearly to outstanding alumni of Taylorville Community Unit School District. This year the award was given to the Davis Family: Marty and Donna, Brad and Karol, Rodney and Shannon, and Debbie as well as their children. The Davis Family has made innumerable contributions to the community and schools such as the Senior Golf Outing and McTeacher Night. Upon receiving the award, Marty thanked the community and schools for their continuing support of his business and his family through the many years they have made Taylorville their home. The audience responded with a standing ovation.
The last award of the evening was a new award. – The Friend of Education Award. This inaugural award was given to Katie Fraly, an outstanding educator, an outstanding champion of the arts, and an outstanding proponent for students, the Taylorville School District, and the Foundation. Katie’s family accepted the award on her behalf and echoed Katie’s positive philosophy regarding the importance of education in one’s life and her belief in the Taylorville Public School System. The audience responded with a standing ovation.
