THS hosts first track and field meet of 2023

TAYLORVILLE — The Discuss throw is a personal favorite Track and Field event to witness. It’s a demonstration of concentration and raw strength that can fire up any spectator. The THS throwers JakeWhetsell, Curt Hunsley and Ethan Smith show off their talent and form in sequence.

TAYLORVILLE — The Taylorville High School played host to its first Track andFieldeventofthe2023 season on Wednesday, March 29. The boys and girlsteamsfacedoffagainst Chatham Glenwood and Springfield High School. The 2A vs 3A matchup had plenty of talent on its hands.

SPRINTS

Chatham had the sprinting events in the bag with the 100m, 200m, 400m and even 800m dashes all having a Glenwood Titan in the first four spots. THS’ (12) Nathan Coady, (9) Cameron Davis, (9) Sawyer Barnes and (11) Clark Rahar all finished within the top 20 of the 100m. The 200m saw (12) Elijah Wilkins and Barnes finished inthetop15and(10)Brody Harker finished in them top 10 for the 400m. (9) David Schafer, (9) Ross Brown and (12) Jackson Mizeur-Crist finished the 800m in 12, 15 and 16.

LONG DISTANCE

Long Distance was it for the Tornadoes with (11) Owen Morgan, (11) Jesse Sloan, (11) Jack Chesser, (12) Will Turvey, (11) Brenton Good and (9) Alex Davis finishing 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 for the 1600m.

The 3200m was a similar story seeing Taylorville’s Sloan, Turvey, Chesser, Good, Harker and Davis all inside the top 15.

HURDLES

Senior William Colbrook took home 4th and 6th in both 300m and 110m hurdles. (9) Owen Mateer secured 9th and 7th in the same events respectively.

RELAYS

The three relay events went as follows for Taylorville: 4x100m Relay:

Fourth place (William Colbrook, (9) Cameron Davis, (12) Trenton Lehman and Nathan Coady).

4x200m Relay: Third place (Clark Rahar, Elijah Wilkins, Nathan Coady and Trenton Lehman).

4x400m Relay: Second place (Brenton Good, Will Turvey, Owen Morgan and Jesse Sloan) and fifth place (Trenton Lehman, Nathan Coady, Cameron Davis and Cameron Adams).

DISCUSS/SHOT PUT

Senior Curt Hunsley finished third place for the discuss and sixth place for the Shot Put events. Junior Jake Whetsell finished eighth and 9th.

POLE VAULT

Owen Mateer secured third place in the Pole Vault event soaring 9’ ft in the air.

LONG JUMP

Elijah Wilkins (17’ 10) and Cameron Adams (17’ 6.5) both earned 7th and 10th place for the Long Jump category.

TRIPLE JUMP

The pair also finished 5th (34’4.5) and 6th (33’5.5) for the Triple Jump.

GIRLS

No Girls Track and Field results were recieved as of Thursday morning.
