PHS boys 1st; girls 3rd in SCC Topper Open

HILLSBORO — The Panther boys; girls Track and Field teams headed to Hillsboro for the South Central Conference ’Topper Open on Tuesday, Apr. 11. Pana, Carlinville and Hillsboro all had their best athletes on display and fighting for a top spot. The Pana boys took home first place with a total score of 82 points. Hillsboro (66) earned second and Carlinville (41) rounded out the three teams. The girls side was a much closer race seeing Carlinville take the top spot with 57, Hillsboro snag second place with 50 and Pana round out the top three with 45.
BOYS
First things first… Pana High School has a new Pole Vault record. Junior Griffin Kimbrel set the bar high on Tuesday with a height of 14’ 6m.
Sophomore Isaiah Harbert set a personal record in the Pole Vault event with a height of 12’ 6.
Senior Max Lynch reached a new distance in the Long Jump of 20’ 0m which earned him a first place finish. Behind him was sophomore Sam Sims (2nd place; 18’ 5m).
Senior Carter Beyers took the top spot in the 100m dash with an official time of 11.6. Behind him was Sam Sims (2nd; 11.7), Max Lynch (3rd; 11.8), Brayden Carlson (5th; 12.3), Garrett Pierce (6th; 12.3), Roaran Lees (7th; 12.3) and Wyatt Kile (8th; 12.5).
Sam Sims also placed in the top spot for the 200m dash with an official time of 23.7.
Panther throwers also had a great day with many PRs being met and exceeded. For the Shot Put, Junior Brandon Lehman (1st; 41’ 7) and sophomore Roaran Lees (2nd; 40’ 9.5) took the top two spots.
Pana also took the top three spots for the Discus toss: Junior Connor McGlaughlen (1st; 135; 10.5), sophomore Kanden Brown (2nd; 113’ 5) and junior Brandon Lehman (3rd; 105’ 5).
GIRLS
Senior Anna Beyers placed 1st in the Long Jump event leaping 14’0. Behind her was Grace Elliott (3rd; 11’ 9.5), Ryleigh Casner (4th; 11’ 5) and Jocelynn Weber (5th; 8’ 8.5).
Beyers and Senior Ella Cutler also participated in the High Jump event hopping 4’ 4m bar which earned them both 2nd and 4th place.
The Pana girls took home first place for the 4x200m relay with a time of 2:05.9. The team was comprised of Alissa Edwards, Ella Cutler, Ryleigh Casner and Aleajah Snyder.
Reagan McGlaughlen secured first place in the Shot Put event throwing the 4kg ball 31’ 0m. McGlaughlen, the freshman, also placed second in the Discus throw.
She tossed the 1kg dish a distance of 98’ 1.75m.
Pana junior Nicole Ackerbauer threw her Discus 69’ 3m which earned her a top five finish in the event.
Another freshman, Alissa Edwards, ran a speedy 100m dash in 14.1 seconds which gave her a top three finish.
In the 200m dash, freshman Lila Wallace secured third place with a time of 32.8.
Senior Morgan Beyers secured a top two spot in the 400m with an official time of 1:14.4. Anna Beyers was right behind her with a time of 115.6.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will visit Sullivan for their next Track and Field event. The Trio-County meet will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 18.
