The Taylorville School Board meets Wednesday evening to discuss building plans
The Taylorville school board met Wednesday afternoon for a special board meeting. The meeting was held in the district office at 1100 N. Sportsman Dr. in Taylorville.
During the meeting, the team from Architechnics presented a layout of the proposed building plans. The Board voted to review how much the district has to spend on the project and hopes to have the review done before the new bids deadline. The bids for construction are as follows.
Option 1: Phase 1A Special Education classroom addition – $3,429,036; Phase 1B Fieldhouse (200m track and four courts) – $10,930,389; Phase 1C Band and Chorus interior renovation – $72,750,175; Phase 2 Locker Rooms and Tommy TV – $3,564,280; and Phase 3 junior high stage renovation – $369,000. Total cost for all Option One projects: $18,365,455.
Option 2: Phase 1A New Performing Arts Center with lobby and Tommy TV – $10,845,965; Phase 1B Band and Chorus interior renovations – $72,750. Total cost for this option, $10,918,715.
Option 3: Phase 1A Gym (one court, 20,700 square feet) – $6,537,066; Phase 1B Locker Rooms – $1,796,280; Phase 1C Band and Chorus interior renovation – $72,750; Phase 2 New Performing Arts Center (16,700 square feet) – $9,462,950. Total cost for Option 3, $17,869,046.
There was a brief recap of the strategic planning focus, goals, committee reports, and timeline. The packet was given out to the board for review and the team will address possible updates at a future meeting.
In other matters, there was a review of meeting norms which are the rules for conduct and respect for the school board meetings, members and positions. These rules for conduct have been agreed upon by the board members.
The Board approved committee appointments. The Breeze-Courier was told the revised committee list would be on the school district’s website this morning. It has not been updated as of presstime today. A request by the newspaper for the committee appointments list has not been answered.
The revised Board meeting calendar for 2023-’24 was approved.
The meeting adjourned at 6:02 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the district office.
