(TAYLORVILLE) — During a special meeting of the Taylorville School Board on Tuesday night, the Board decided to begin a search for an interim school superintendent following the announcement last week of the retirement of current Superintendent, Dr. Chris Daugherty. Her last day is June 30, 2023.
Dr. Ron Mizer suggested using a former interim superintendent to help find a superintendent. Mizer has been a Board member during several superintendents searches. The Board hired an interim prior to the employment of Dr. Greg Fuerstenau. There was no interim hired prior to the hiring of Dr. Daugherty.
There was also discussion about hiring an interim through the Illinois School Board Association while seeking a permanent replacement.
Ann Chandler made a motion to hire an interim superintendent. There was pushback regarding the proper process of hiring an interim or new superintendent. Trisha Marburger said the Board should not vote because of the legality of the agenda’s wording. Marsburger claimed due to the language of the agenda, the board would need to rewrite the agenda and meet to vote again. With the holiday weekend coming up and a lack of time to decide, most of the group agreed to go ahead and vote on the time-sensitive matter.
Jeniffer Norris excused herself and left the meeting just before voting. Mizer voted present and Marburger voted “no.”
Brenda Patrick, Ann Chandler, Carla Mickey and Lori Wemple voted in favor of hiring an interim with the help of the Illinois School Board Association.
The meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
The next Board of Education meeting is scheduled for June 27, 2023, at 6:00 p.m.
