Interviews for interim superintendent candidates set
(TAYLORVILLE) — During a special meeting of the Taylorville School Board on Wednesday night, members approved the hiring of an interim superintendent and the building committee approved a building recommendation for an addition at the Taylorville High School campus.
The district is in need of a superintendent due to the retirement of current superintendent, Dr. Chris Dougherty on June 30, 2023. Board member Dr. Ronald Mizer raised concerns about hiring an interim, but wanted to begin a search immediately for a permanent replacement. another member, Tricia Marburger, was not happy with the time it has taken to get to this point.
Board President Brenda Patrick indicated there has been some preliminary searching has been done through the Illinois School Board Association. There are several candidates out there and the interim would probably serve for a year.
When the vote came, it was 5-2 with Marburger abstaining and Jennifer Norris voting no.
The Board set Saturday and Sunday, July 15 and 16, 2023, for interviewing potential candidates.
The Finance Committee reviewed budgets, funds available, fund projections and quotes for the long awaited addition at the high school complex. The committee agreed to recommend a budget of $13 million to the entire board. The committee agreed this recommendation will leave enough for a contingency.
Once this meting ended, the Building Committee discussed strategic planning for the Fine Arts and Sports Complex, including AV and classrooms. The committee reviewed the history of the project, which found the fine arts project was the original plan. To fulfill the music and physical education needs, the committee agreed to recommend the Option 3 building plan presented. This would entail a 20,700-square-foot field house with lobby and restrooms and spectator seating in the upper level and locker rooms A new Performing Arts Center, covering 15,100-square-feet and a Tommy TV studio.
The committee unanimously approved the recommendation for Option 3. They said the option would also contain a Special Education Center.
The recommendations will be considered at the next regular school board meeting set for Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at 6:00 p.m.
