TAYLORVILLE — With Veteran’s Day fast approaching, Christian County has plans to honor the holiday and our local Veterans. From dedications at Lake Taylorville to the annual lunches and dinners that are served throughout the county, Veteran’s Day 2023 is all about making sure every veteran and their families feel appreciated for their sacrifice for our country.
The events will start at 10 a.m. at the American Legion in Taylorville. The Master of Ceremonies is Glen Goodrich. Events include a concert performed by the Taylorville Municipal Band by Director Chris Gunn. The guest speakers will be Delmar Buske, who is the American Legion Department of Illinois Commander, with Dean Ray providing closing comments
After the American Legion ceremony, everyone is invited to attend the Lake Taylorville Veterans Point Memorial at 1 p.m., where the Smalltown Taylorville group will be dedicating a bench for Jeff and Phyllis Wilson to honor them for all their efforts to support the Memorial, as well as recognize all Veterans for their service.
Veteran’s Day 2023 will conclude at the VFW Post 4495 with music, guest speakers, and plenty of food. The Taylorville Moose Lodge will also provide a pork chop dinner for $10 per person. Valued Veterans eat for free with ID. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. For entertainment, the Mathis Family will start their performance at 5:30 p.m. There will also be a cash bar available. Everyone, especially former and current service members, is encouraged to join the ceremonies.
