Guest speaker, Tom Latonis, delivers his speech about honoring veterans during Pana’s annual Veteran’s Day celebration in Kitchell Park Saturday morning. During his speech, Latonis held up a cup that his father, a WWII veteran, had used during his service in the 38 Battalion US Army Signal Corps. He said his father had etched each assignment he had been a part of on the cup and he keeps it by his desk everyday. “I look at it everyday, smile, and I am reminded of his life and his commitment to his service to our country.” Latonis said. “Like a vast majority of his generation, they are no longer with us. It is up to us, as a much more prominent Illinoisan said 160 years ago this month on the battle of Gettysburg: we can never forget what they did here.”
