KINCAID–The village of Kincaid decided to table the decision of annexing Jeisyville until next month during a special meeting Monday night at the Village Hall.
At the meeting, Jeisyville’s pro tempore mayor, Ron Summers, said he has gotten several calls from residents against the annexation.
“The ones that I have talked to, they’re worried,” Summers said. “They’re saying: ‘Oh Kincaid wants to take us over.’ I said you don’t understand what it’s about, they don’t want to take us over, we’re still going to have board members on the board.”
Summers added he wanted to wait on deciding on annexation to help inform the community what annexation would mean for Jeisyville.
Jeisyville board member, Matt, said the board members and the mayor will be visiting Jiesyville residents to start conversations on the annexation.
“Most of the [Jeisyville] board seems to support it, we probably need to go out and do some marketing,” Matt said. “I think seeing it in the paper, you’re going to have one reaction versus what we discuss here, we had some data points to start conversations and maybe sway a few. They’re reading ‘annex’ and thinking of it as something negative.”
The village board thanked Summers for his time and offered to attend a board meeting at Jeisyville to help answer questions residents may have.
Summers said he would have to check with the Jeisyville board members before bringing Kincaid board members over for a meeting to make sure there’s enough space.
“I have heard people say: ‘Why don’t they come over here?’” Summers said. “We don’t have the room for them. If we had to, we could make it work and we could have it [the meeting] in my garage.”
The motion to table the subject of annexing Jeisyville until next month passed without objection.
Kincaid’s next town meeting will be on December 11, in the township hall at 6:00 p.m.
