STONINGTON–The village of Stonington held a board meeting on November 20, 2023 in the town hall to discuss changes to zoning ordinances in Chapter 11.
Following discussion on Chapter 11, Zoning Village of Stonington, Article 20, Section 11.2007, the following changes will be made:
Sub-section E will be renamed to “storing travel trailers and recreational vehicles.” The rest of the sub-section will remain the same.
Sub-section F will be renamed to “camper.” The description to the subsection will be changed to: “Any tent, or shelter, of self-contained traveling home, or trailer capable of being hauled by a motor vehicle, or any vehicle, or any structure or unit or vehicle or thing is constructed such that it may be moved from place to place, any of which is capable of being used as a permanent or temporary living accommodation, sleeping quarters, or dwelling for one or more persons.”
The description on sub-section F under “Residential” will also be changed to “The use of a camper by any person for a living accommodation, or as sleeping quarters, or as a dwelling for a period of more than ten days within andy consecutive thirty day period on any lot or parcel of public or private land within the village of Stonington, Ill.”
Sub-section F will also have new fines for those in violation of the ordinances, which will be as follows: first offense receives a warning, on the second offense the person will be fined $250, and the third offense will charge the person $500 for each additional seven days they violate the ordinance.
After much discussion it was decided that there would be no changes made to Zoning: Village of Stonington, Article three R-1 Residential District, Section 11.302 One Trailer upon a single lot is permitted.
The village will be voting on the proposed changes at the next meeting.
The next meeting will be held at the village hall on Monday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m.
