TAYLORVILLE — Taylorville Community Credit Union has announced that voting to determine the winners of this year’s eight $1000 awards has begun and continues through February 29, 2024.
Two seniors from Taylorville High School who registered for this year’s ‘Stop. SHOP. VOTE!’ program will receive $1000 awards toward their continuing education. Winners are determined by the number of votes cast by area shoppers in the participating businesses.
In total, eight high school seniors – two each from Taylorville, Hillsboro, Litchfield and Pana High Schools – will receive such awards.
“This is the tenth consecutive year for this program,” points out TCCU President, Will Perkins. “Each year it has received more support and recognition as a valuable resource to graduating high school seniors who plan to go on to trade school, two-year community college or four-year university programs.”
TCCU’s scholarship program is truly a win-win proposition for all involved, says Perkins. “While the registered students have an opportunity to receive $1000 toward their continuing education, our locally owned businesses benefit as well, in that they receive added publicity and advertising and, we hope, increased sales, through their participation.
“And our local communities realize increased sales tax revenues because people are shopping locally so they can vote for their Favorite students.”
Through February 29, 2024, shoppers can cast one vote for every 10 dollars they spend in participating local businesses.
Perkins emphasizes there is no limit to how many of the participating stores residents can shop in, or how many times they visit them between now and February 29, 2024. “We encourage everyone to ‘think global, shop local,’ and patronize these local businesses – and all others in our communities,” he says.
