TAYLORVILLE — Last night a community stakeholder meeting was held at North Elementary School in Taylorville to meet with the two semi-finalist candidates for the position of Superintendent of Schools.
The meeting was hosted by the Illinois School Board Association (ISBA) and conducted by Dr. Patricia Viniard, Director of IASB. Dr. Viniard, school board members and community members conducted interviews of the two candidates.
In an article in the Wednesday, November 29, 2023 edition of the Breeze-Courier, it was stated that a group of community stakeholders was being sought to help with the decision for hiring a new Superintendent. The public was encouraged to apply to be a stakeholder and submit their name, position/stakeholder group, email address, cell phone number and any questions they would suggest be asked of the candidates by December 1st. According to Taylorville CUSD #3 Board President Brenda Patrick a total of 28 individuals applied with 25 in attendance at last night’s meeting.
The stakeholders were advised this ISBA process was a confidential process at this time and asked not to share information. “This process is confidential at this point because we want to be sensitive to the candidates who are currently employed elsewhere and may or may not have shared with their employer(s) about their intent. We were advised by ISBA to utilize this process and we feel like we had a very well-rounded representation of the community at the meeting. In fact, to my knowledge this is the first time the district has ever had a stakeholder process when conducting interviews. We’re proud we can do that so the community has a vested interest,” said Patrick.
As far as when a decision will be made Patrick indicated “We are in negotiations with an individual and we hope to announce something before Christmas. The subject is on our next school board agenda for Tuesday. If we don’t have a decision made by that date, we will call a special meeting to announce after that. But, again, it is our hope to be able to announce something by Christmas,” said Patrick.
The next school board meeting is set for Tuesday, Dec. 12th at 6 p.m. in the district office.
