The Senior Center in Taylorville has regular pinochle games each week on  Wednesday and Friday starting at 1:00 p.m.  If you used to play and need a refresher course or have never played and need a lesson or two, we have someone here to help you with just that!!!  This is a great way to spend an afternoon as well as meeting new friends. Join the Family Beekeepers of Illinois during our monthly meeting at the Christian County Extension Center. No experience is necessary and all ages and backgrounds are welcome. Come, bee social and ask questions and learn from our education presentations.

Farmer’s Market

The annual Farmer’s Market will be every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to noon on the Taylorville Square. There will be early produce, bedding plants, fresh flowers, baked goods, and craft items. Check out DowntownTaylorville on Facebook for more information.

Jamie Tolley will be at the Tower Hill Free Methodist Church 207 Erie St. on Saturday, June 4th at 5 p.m. Jamie Tolley lives in Ripley, WV with his wife and sons, Austin, Jordan and Ryan, and daughter, Lauren. He grew up in West Virginia surrounded by country and bluegrass music. He has played in other groups. Dobro, rhythm guitar and assisted with backup vocals. Son Austin plays piano/keyboard, bass guitar, ukulele and harmonica. Jordan plays the banjo with the younger brother Ryan playing guitar. Rachel and their daughter Lauren also sing some songs as well. For more information contact Sue at 217-836-6285.

Center HCE Meeting

Center HCE meeting will meet on Monday, June 6, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the Christian Co. Extension Office. Roll call will answer to “Are you planning a summer vacation?” Delores Hunt and Sharon Turner will give the lesson on ” Wildflowers and Butterflies.” Members will make the final plans for the Fun Day event. Barbara McKinney and Dorris Schroyer are the Hostesses for the meeting. The next Center HCE meeting will be in September.

GriefShare

Community members who have experienced the death of a family member or friend are invited to register for the GriefShare program held at Calvary Baptist Church, Taylorville. This nondenominational program features Christ-centered, biblical teaching that focuses on grief topics associated with the death of a loved one. The DVD seminar features nationally respected grief experts and real-life stories of people, followed by a small group discussion about what was seen on the DVD.  These weekly sessions cover a different topic related to the griefing process each week.  If you cannot attend all sessions, you can attend a make-up session when another program is offered in the fall. Sessions run from 10 am to 12 pm in the Upper Room of Calvary Baptist Church at 930 Haner Avenue, Taylorville.  Enter the double doors of the entrance on Haner Avenue.  To register or for questions, call the church office 217-824-2324 or by email at calvary@cbctaylorville.com, There is no fee for attendance which will include a workbook and light refreshments.

First United Methodist (FUMC), St. Mary’s, Davis Memorial and First Presbyterian will be hosting their Vacation Bible Study (VBS) June 13 through June 16 at Davis Memorial. Pre-register by calling FUMC (217-824-2782), St. Mary’s (217-824-8178), Davis Memorial (218-824-8181) or First Presbyterian (217-824-2253). Pre-registration is not required; you can sign up the week of.

SATURDAY
3-on-3 basketball at 9 a.m; parade lines up at 10, judges at 10:30 and starts at 11 a.m; sand volleyball at noon; corn hole registration at noon and tournament at 1:30 p.m; kids games from 2-3:30 p.m; chicken dinner from 5-7 p.m; Center Point Dance Academy on the main stage from 5-6 p.m; “William Mitchell Hypnotist” on the main stage from 6:30-8 p.m; kids dance party in the pavilion from 8:30-10 p.m; 50/50 drawing at 9 p.m; “Branded” in the beer tent from 8:30 p.m. – 12:30 a.m.

Stonington Firehouse Breakfast from 7-11 a.m; Community Church Service at 11 a.m; volleyball registration at 11 a.m. and tournament at noon; tot-rod pedal pulls registration at 12:30 and event at 1 p.m; chili cook-off at 1 p.m. with winners announced at 4 p.m; “Sally the Clown” from 2-4 p.m; “Wagahoff Friendly Farms’ Petting Zoo” at 2 p.m; talent show at 6 p.m; “Professor Long Hair Magic Show” from 7-8 p.m; DJ and karaoke in the beer tent at 7 p.m; 50/50 drawing and raffle winners announced at 9 p.m; fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

The Christian County Historical Society will host the first two Taylorville Municipal Band concerts at its campus located at 254 Abe’s Way in Taylorville. These concerts are scheduled for Wednesday, June 22 and 29, beginning at 7:00 pm. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for enjoyable old-fashioned summer evening concerts on the museum lawn. Call the museum at 217-824-6922 for more information.

Victory Boys Quartet from Marion, IL will be presenting a southern gospel concert at United in Faith Church, 609 Fairgrounds Rd. Pana on Sunday, June 26 at 5:00 p.m. Please join us for an evening of toe tappin to soul searching music. When one leaves the concert the quartet wants each person to feel spiritually uplifted. A love offering will be taken.
