National Night Out

The 4th annual National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, August 2 from 5-8 p.m. at the Christian County Fair grounds. There will be free food and drinks, a DJ, raffles, and face painting for kids. Come run the obstacle course, play on the inflatables, do the dunk tank, and participate sack races. This event is sponsored by TPD, TFD, CC sheriff, and police departments from Assumption, Stonington, Kincaid, Edinburg, and Morrisonville.

The Senior Center in Taylorville has regular pinochle games each week on  Wednesday and Friday starting at 1:00 p.m.  If you used to play and need a refresher course or have never played and need a lesson or two, we have someone here to help you with just that!!!  This is a great way to spend an afternoon as well as meeting new friends. Join the Family Beekeepers of Illinois during our monthly meeting at the Christian County Extension Center. No experience is necessary and all ages and backgrounds are welcome. Come, bee social and ask questions and learn from our education presentations.

The annual Farmer’s Market will be every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to noon on the Taylorville Square. There will be early produce, bedding plants, fresh flowers, baked goods, and craft items. Check out DowntownTaylorville on Facebook for more information.

GriefShare

Community members who have experienced the death of a family member or friend are invited to register for the GriefShare program held at Calvary Baptist Church, Taylorville. This nondenominational program features Christ-centered, biblical teaching that focuses on grief topics associated with the death of a loved one. The DVD seminar features nationally respected grief experts and real-life stories of people, followed by a small group discussion about what was seen on the DVD.  These weekly sessions cover a different topic related to the griefing process each week.  If you cannot attend all sessions, you can attend a make-up session when another program is offered in the fall. Sessions run from 10 am to 12 pm in the Upper Room of Calvary Baptist Church at 930 Haner Avenue, Taylorville.  Enter the double doors of the entrance on Haner Avenue.  To register or for questions, call the church office 217-824-2324 or by email at calvary@cbctaylorville.com, There is no fee for attendance which will include a workbook and light refreshments.

Paws in the Pool

Bring your pooch to the pool day! ON Sunday, August 14, the Manners Park pool will be open to your furry best friend. From 11:30 – 1:30, small dogs will be allowed to swim. From 2:30 – 4:30, large dogs will get their turn i the pool. Must pre-register to take part in this event. More information is available at the Manners Park office.

Ice Cream Social

Please join us for a summer’s end gospel concert, ice cream social and fellowship on Saturday, August 20 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church’s new pavilion. We are located a few miles north of Walmart at 1919 N 1000 E Rd in Taylorville, IL. Bring your own lawn chair to come out and enjoy wonderful local gospel singers, ice cream, treats and fellowship.

Taylorville First United Methodist Church Blessings of the backpacks for students, teachers, and any school staff during the 8:45 worship service. Ice-cream sundaes will be served after church. We are located at the 200 S. Walnut St. Taylorville First Untied Methodist Church.

The Stonington American Legion Auxiliary in conjunction with the Taylorville VFW  Auxiliary is hosting a benefit run for donations to the Wreaths Across America Campaign. Donations will fund wreaths to be placed on the graves in Camp Butler Cemetery near Springfield in December. The run will be held on August 27th starting at the Taylorville VFW and ending at the Stonington American Legion where there will be food and entertainment after visiting other towns in the area. Registration is 11:00 am to 12:45 pm at the VFW in Taylorville (515 N West Ave).  Join in the fun while supporting a  worthy cause.

MOAA Meeting

Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Illinois Taylorville Chapter will host guest speaker Col. John Raschke, Ret. United States Army on Sunday, August 28th at 4 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church (1010 N. Webster St. in Taylorville). Local LCMS Congregations and local military officers are invited to attend. Call Ralph Woehrmann, acting MOAA Taylorville President, for any questions at 217-494-4369. MOAA is a lobby for ensuring that US Officers, any branch, active or retired, received that which they are entitled.
