Optimist Club holds first meeting of new fiscal year

TAYLORVILLE — The Tay- lorville Optimist Club held its regular meeting on Thurs- day, October 13, 2022, in the Community Room of the Peo- ple’s Bank. President John Crist called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Al- legiance for the final meet- ing of his term. Ron Spears led the club in the morning prayers.

As the Optimist year runs from Oct. 1 to Sep. 30 of year, this was the first meeting of the new fiscal year. Officers and board members for the 2022-23 year were inducted by Ron Spears. Adam Vocks will assume the position of President, while Dan Raab will serve as 1st VP, Bruce Blanshan as 2nd VP, and Jim Adcock will continue to serve as the Secretary/treasurer.

Upcoming for the club is the annual mostaccioli din- ner on Monday, Oct. 24th, from 4:30-6:30 PM. The din- ner will be a drive-thru with access at the rear serving window of Florinda’s. Cars will be directed to enter the parking lot from the Walnut St. entrance, then follow the signs through to lot to the back of the restaurant, and exit to the north onto Main St. Tickets are available from any Optimist Club member, at Florinda’s, and will be available at the drive-up window the afternoon of the dinner. Tickets prices are $12 for adult, $6 for children under 12. Group tickets are available at a discounted price of 10 for $100.

Other events in the near future for the club includes the annual Christmas for Kids. This takes place on Dec. 7th and is in cooperation with the Foster Family program administered by Kemmerer Village.

President Adam is looking at ways to inspire more par- ticipation by current mem- bers as well as creating more

interest for new members to join the world of Optimism. Visitors, guests, and prospective new members are welcome at any regular meeting. For more information, please contact any current member or call 217-827- 5978.

Next meeting for the club will be on Thursday, Oct. 27th, when Dr. David Dur- ham of Edinburg will be our guest speaker. Dr. Durham will present his plans for the renovation and future of his building on the corner of S. Main & E. Market, formerly known as One East Market.
