Pana High School boys basketball team snag a pair of weekend wins

The Pana High School boys basketball team earned a pair of road victories over the weekend. They were both close contests with the margin of victory 8 points total.
On Saturday, Dec. 6, taking on the Edinburg Wildcats, the Panthers got a 67-62 win and on Friday, Dec. 5, going to Pawnee, they pulled out a 48-45 win. Both games were non-conference.
In Saturday night’s game, senior Cash Lynch poured in 26 points to pace both squads. Also scoring in double figures for the Panthers were Easton Malisia with 14 and Madyx Angel with a dozen.
Brayden Hicks got 7 points with Jax Czaikowski adding 5. Eian Vaughn rounded out the scoring with two points.
Pana had a 22-16 lead after the first quarter and maintained the lead, 38-34 at halftime. The Wildcats closed the gap and led by one after three quarters, 50-49. In the fourth quarter, Pana got to the free throw line a dozen times and made 9 of them. Meanwhile, the Wildcats only had 6 attempts from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter and cashed in on 5 of them. For the game, Pana was 18-of-27 from the line, 67% and Edinburg went 9-of-12, 75%.
At Pawnee-
Another close one on Saturday night as the Panthers had a seven point lead going into the fourth quarter, 36-29, but were able to hold off the Indians to win. Pawnee outscored Pana, 16-12 in the final stanza.
Sophomore Easton Malisia had the hot hand on Saturday, leading all scorers with 25 points. Cash Lynch followed with 19 and Madyx Angel was the only other Pana scorer with 4 points.
Pana had a 13-10 lead after a period and it was 21-17 at halftime, Pana.
Jace Jankousky and Gavin Greer led Pawnee with 16 points apiece.
From the free throw line, Pana was 14-of-26, 54% and Pawnee went to the line 17 times, making 14 for 82%.
Pana, 2-0, will be home tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 9, to face long-time rival Shelbyville in the Pana High School gym. Junior varsity action gets underway at 6:00 p.m.
