Roy Prose

April 1, 1948 — December 24, 2025

Roy Prose, 77, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on December 24, 2025, at his home in the Lasalle Veterans Home, where he resided with his military family since March of 2022.

He was born on April 1, 1948, in Taylorville, to the late Bobby W. Prose and Jamie (Brown) Lovejoy. He married the love of his life, Janet Dowdy, on September 25, 1971, in Taylorville, and she survives.

Roy proudly and selflessly served his country for four years in the U.S. Air Force, serving two tours in Vietnam and an additional four years in the Air National Guard, as an Aircraft Maintenance Crew Chief of the F-4. Roy was the Transportation Supervisor of Morrisonville Schools.

After changing careers, he served on the Morrisonville school board for four years. And when President of the board in 1988, he was honored at the State School Board Convention. One of the founding members of the PMRA, he remained an active supporter for several years.

For ten years, he owned an insurance agency with Farmers Insurance. He also became a R.E. Broker and added Prose RE. to his Business. He later closed his Agency to accept a position as a Health Insurance Consumer Rep, for the Illinois Department of Insurance, for fifteen years, where he retired.

He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather, and loved spending time with his family. He was a loyal fan to any sport his Boys played, and carried on for his three Granddaughters events. Roy was an avid Deer Hunter & the chief cook at Deer Camp. He was a huge Chicago Bear fan and enjoyed watching the games with all of the family.

Roy is survived by his wife: Janet Prose of Taylorville, IL; children: Joshua Prose (Jenny Meyer) of Morrisonville, IL; Jacob (Jasmin) Prose of Byron, IL; grandchildren: Ashlynn Prose; Kaydence Prose; and Tatum Prose; siblings: Nancy (Dwayne) Gerl of Litchfield, IL; Randy Prose of Morrisonville, IL; and Wayne (Peggy) Prose of Taylorville, IL; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby Prose and Jamie (Ernie) Lovejoy.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2025, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at Assalley Funeral Home in Morrisonville. A funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jim Ferrill officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at a later date.

Memorials in Roy’s honor may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Morrisonville or to the Lasalle Veterans Home.
