TAYLORVILLE — Tri-county residents are reminded they have only through Saturday, February 28 to shop and vote in Taylorville Community Credit Union’s 12th annual ‘Stop. SHOP. VOTE!’ program.
A total of eight graduating seniors from Taylorville, Hillsboro, Litchfield and Pana high schools will each receive $1000 awards this spring toward their continuing education. The funds can be used toward the costs of attending a trade school, two-year community college or four-year university programs.
The two winners from each high school are determined by votes cast by area shoppers in the participating businesses. Shoppers can cast one (1) vote for every 10 dollars they spend in participating local businesses.
“We are proud to again offer this program to our communities’ students and help them pursue their dreams,” says TCCU President, Will Perkins. “It’s a program that obviously benefits students but also the dozens of businesses that participate by encouraging area residents to ‘shop local’ and support our communities.”
Perkins points out that there is no limit to how many of the participating stores residents can shop in, or how many times they visit them through February 28th. “We encourage everyone to patronize these local businesses – and all others in our communities,” he says.
Participating businesses are identified by the large program posters in their windows or inside. Ballots and ballot boxes are available to everyone who wishes to vote for their favorite student(s).
An outside, independent agency will collect, tabulate and report the voting results. Awards will be presented later this spring.
