Pana to play for 3rd place at Vandalia

VANDALIA — The Pana Panthers boys basketball team will face old South Central Conference rival Greenville tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 5:30 p.m. in the third place game of the 53rd annual Vandalia Holiday Tournament.
The Panthers fell to the host and the “B” Pool number one seeded team, host Vandalia, on Monday evening, Dec. 29, 75-65.
Pana was seeded second in the “A” Pool.
The Panthers were led in scoring by Cash Lynch and Easton Malisia with 20 and 18 points, respectively. Senior Madyx Angel put in 9 points and Jax Czaikowski added 8. Brayden Hicks picked up 6 points while Eian Vaughn chipped in with 4 points.
For the Vandals, they had a balanced scoring attack with five players scoring in double figures, led by Quentin Stombaugh with 19 points.
Vandalia took a 20-14 lead after one period and it was 39-31, Vandals, at the break. Going into the fourth quarter, the lead was 57-45.
Pana went 26-of-60 from the floor for 43% and shot 8-of-13 for 62%. Vandalia hit on 27-of-50, 54% and were 14-of-23 at the line, 61%.
The Vandals had a big advantage on the boards, 34-21. Carter Robbins snagged 9 with Lucas Bowers having 7. Pana’s top rebounder was Malisia with 8.
Vandalia committed 13 turnovers compared to 10 for the Panthers.
After tonight’s game, the Panthers (7-5) return to the regular season schedule when they battle Riverton in the Pana High School gym on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026.
